“The mission of the Loudoun County Trails Association (LOCOTA) shall be to support the establishment of a comprehensive non-motorized outdoor recreational trail system throughout Loudoun County, VA. LOCOTA will present a unified voice to actively advocate, educate, directly facilitate (including voluntary trail location, maintenance and construction), and communicate the goals, initiatives, and benefits of such comprehensive outdoor recreation trail system, in order to serve all types of non-motorized recreation trail users, and to advance the interests of all trail users and disciplines within the outdoor recreation industry in Loudoun’s rural geography.”
As a founding organization, MTB LoCo holds a permanent spot on the Board of Directors, and we are very proud to announce that Jennifer Wheeler has stepped up to represent our interests on the BOD. The other founding organizations are: Loudoun County Equine Alliance(LCEA), Purcellville Plodders (Trail running organization), Potomac Heritage Trail Association(PHTA), United States Trail Ride (USTR) (Equestrian trail riding), BikeLoudoun, and the Potomac Appalachian Trail Club(PATC). Additionally, there are 4 At-Large positions on the BOD. These four additional members were nominated and approved last night and include 4 individuals with Equestrian, Hiking, and Mountain Biking backgrounds. There is a tremendous amount of natural surface recreational trail activity currently underway in Loudoun, as these various groups have worked together to illustrate the interest and numerous benefits to Loudoun businesses and residents, including the current Loudoun County Board of Supervisors. LOCOTA’s next meeting is March 19th at 7 pm at the American Academy of Equestrian Sciences, 19844 James Monroe Highway, Leesburg, VA 20175. This meeting is open to all interested parties.
Another step in the right direction!
